A timber supporter for Oregon Governor???
State Senator Betsy Johnson, D-Scappoose, recently announced she will run for Governor as a non-affiliatedcandidate for Oregon’s open Gubernatorial race in 2022. Johnson is leaving the Democratic Party which she claims is too liberal and won’t join the Republican Party that her father was a member of because of too many Trump apologists.
Betsy Johnson has been a longtime supporter of Natural Resource businesses including #TimberUnity. A pragmatic legislator who was always willing to listen to all sides of an issue.
She has invigorated the Natural Resource Community and expect her to receive support from loggers, forest contractors, millworkers, farmers, nursery operators and all blue-collar workers. Once her message gets out, all business owners will flock to her independent campaign.
The Governor’s race promises to be an interesting pursuit with several Democratic and Republican Candidates already announcing their intentions. These include House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, Treasurer Tobias Read, D-Beaverton, Salem Oncologist and 2018 Candidate Bud Pearce, and Sandy Mayor Stan Pulliam. New York times Columnist and Oregonian, Nicholas Kristoff, left his job at the newspaper to consider a run for Governor. More candidates are likely to file. Stay tuned.
Her slogan should be “I’m a Democrat, just not a Portland Democrat”. Only two Republicans have won statewide in Oregon since 2002 (Senator Gordon Smith and Secretary of State Dennis Richardson). Republicans who say an independent can’t win and will be a spoiler need to look in the mirror.
